"When I first found out I was pregnant, like any modern Mum, Google became my new best friend. Any weird feeling or twinge was typed into the search box and thousands of reassuring pages and articles popped up letting me know that it was normal.
When Max was born, I assumed that Google and I would have this same type of relationship. 3 weeks into my new role as a mother, I was sleep deprived, dealing with a screaming refluxy baby and had no idea what I was doing. Google was no help! Type in “Newborn” and thousands of search suggestions pop up. I read blog, upon blog, article upon article, book upon book. Nothing seemed to help. I even reached for my Mothers vintage copy of Penelope Leach “Baby and Child” the book she used to raise me, thinking an ‘old school’ approach would help, but nothing did.
But as a stubborn modern Mum, I refused to accept defeat by this tiny human. I would fake a smile, put on a tone of concealer to hide the bags under my eyes and just get on with life. My mental health was suffering, my relationship with my husband was suffering, it was taking a toll on my body and still I refused to ask for help.
Things had to change! By the time Max was 4 ½ months old, I decided to swallow my pride and accept help. Emma from the Baby Sleep Consultant came bounding into my living room with a big smile, a huge plastic box of things and amazing confidence that we could get things sorted. After a great discussion about the style and type of parenting my husband and I wanted to do with Max, we set about a new bedtime routine and settled him into bed without his dummy with ease. From there, I had a plan. The following days after Emma’s visit were hard – I am not going to lie, but with the fantastic support from Emma we got through and now things are only going from strength to strength."

“I think a miracle has occurred. Our baby devil has turned into an angel! First nap on the first day was a fight and pretty much since then he has been behaving himself and doing text book naps. Night time is much better, had an hours fight last night (1.30-2.30) but after a breast feed he slept until 7.30 in his own cot (unheard of!). Overall we are just amazed at the change in our boy – he is so much more content, happy and relaxed (as are we) and the household as a whole is a much nicer place to be. I did notice today was a bit more difficult but I do remember in your assessment saying this can happen and to persevere so we will. She has slept for 2 hours for her lunchtime/avo sleep EVERY DAY!!!! I’ve even had to wake her a couple of times at 2.30!! She has pretty much slept through the night also..obviously being sick shes a bit coughy and snotty so i have been checking on her when grizzling but all in all I am amazed!! haha So yeah very stoked I enlisted you to help us!!! My darling Nellie loved being rocked and cuddled to sleep, and I loved rocking her, but realised at the 12 week stage that we needed to progress her to self settling and shortening the amount of time it took to get her to sleep. We also needed to get past the 45 minute intruder!! I had tried patting and shushing previously to no avail, but after receiving your assessment, I had the confidence to tackle the new sleep routine head on. The first few days weren’t easy. But some soothing classical music on my ipod and my earphones helped drown out the crying as we got through a few 40 minute sessions before bubs finally drifted off. ”We are doing fantastic thanks Emma!! Kaelin has slept through the night all but 2 nights (when she was hungry as she didn’t eat well during the day one day, and was out with her Aunt the other day and she didn’t give her the protein part of her lunch!) since the 20th. The daytime sleep routine is going great. The only thing I’ve found is she needs more like 45min than 30 in the morning. And we still get a good 2 hour sleep in the arvo, and she’s in bed by 6.45 at night. I’ve only had to use the settling technique a few times. She got the hang of it really fast!! (I actually ended up deciding on the 1st of the options you gave, as this is the one my husband copes the best with and he needs to be able to settle her when I’m out etc.). We shifted her in to her sister’s old room which is much quieter and darker. And she sleeps all the time in her merino sleeping bag now.”
“My friend told me about Emma and said I should contact her about Mackenzie’s sleep routine I thought pffft no one can help me with her I thought she was a lost cause. Mackenzie since birth pretty much refused day sleeps, I thought I had tried everything…swaddling, white noise, putting to sleep in her room…and when in her room didn’t work I brought her in to the lounge. When she was 3 months I bought a hammock and that provided temporary relief…somewhat, she had to be rocked in order to sleep so instead of having time to do the chores etc while she slept I sat there rocking her. You would think because she didn’t sleep in the day she would sleep at night (ok some of you know this isn’t how it works) but nope numerous wakeups and hours of being awake each time throughout the night. Late one night during my 3rd wakeup I sent Emma a distressed email asking for help and thank goodness I did. Emma wrote out a detailed plan and let me know where I was going wrong, she helped me transition Mackenzie from the hammock to her cot and gave me the help I needed to finally get her sleeping in the day and the night. She provided me with invaluable support while implementing this routine and answered every little question i had thoroughly. Emma told me of others successes and I seriously thought Mackenzie would be the one who just fought everything and proved her routines wrong but by the second night she slept through! And she now sleeps through most nights from 7pm to 7am and has 2 day naps also. So amazing! This is a long winded testimonial but Emma seriously saved my sanity, I get a great night sleep now and am ready to tackle the new day with a clear head (most days). "I am amazed at the incredible response our 2 year old had to the plan Sophie gave to us.
We had ourselves in a complete state before using baby sleep consultants, singing, rocking......and repeating for up to 2 hours to get him to sleep every night. "Thank you Cherene who helped get my beautiful baby Oliver sleeping well. Having already had a child and using Tizzy Hall's schedule for my first (with success) I was surprised just how different two children can be! Oliver was a terrible sleeper from the first night in birthcare and for the first 10 weeks of his life he was either crying or feeding. Not nice for everyone involved! While things improved, they were still not great and by 5 months old I was beyond exhausted. "Hi Emma, not sure if you remember me, before xmas we had a phone consult & I was telling you what a poor feeder Jackson was and you recommended thickener and told me to go to a doctor that day due to his poor weight gain/fussiness and demand a referral (as nobody had been listening)? Well I wanted to email you with a massive THANK YOU!!!!!! We had the paediatrician referral appointment at Starship on Wednesday, they ended up rushing him through for testing and admitting him to the Cardiac ward as they found he’s got a serious problem with his heart that is going to need surgery. It’s the cause of all his feeding problems as his heart is working so hard he’s to tired to feed etc, is like running a marathon when he feeds. So at home now with medication trying to fatten him up as he needs another kg for the surgery to be safer! So from the bottom of mine and my husbands hearts thank you, thank you for listening and supporting me to follow my instincts and insist on a referral!! I thought you were amazing and despite everything we still managed to get him in a better routine. Thank you so much for your guidance and advice – I think sometimes we have an idea of what we should be doing but without the guidance of someone who actually knows what they’re talking about it can be difficult to stick with it (self doubt and all that!). “I was so impressed with the results we achieved on getting my 13 month old back into a routine! I spoke with Cherene just over a week ago and whilst I was on the phone with her my son was crying in the background….yet another unsettling night of refusing to go into the cot. “It took 10 days of staying at home and being consistent at nap time before we made any progress. Sleeping Through the Night
“Hi Emma, I’d like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, and feel free to put this up on your website of Facebook page. Boy is nearly 1, and has never slept through the night ever. I blamed it on wind, eczema, hunger, noisy neighbors … Tried different swaddles, comforters, dummies, white noise, room temperatures…… We spent so much money on different baby products that promised brilliant results, spent time reading different books and tried different techniques. Night after night we were hoping he would grow out of this ‘phase’ which seemed to last forever. Thank you so much for your advice, it has been just what our family needed. Thank you so much for your help over the past week with Kaylee’s sleeping. As you said, with our consistency it will get even better, and your right…she is just about perfect again! Last night she went to bed with no problems, woke around 3ish cried out for a few minutes and self settled, and got up at 6.50am as she had done a poo – and this time she wasn’t tricking! “We are doing fantastic thanks Emma!! Kaelin has slept through the night all but 2 nights (when she was hungry as she didn’t eat well during the day one day, and was out with her Aunt the other day and she didn’t give her the protein part of her lunch!) since the 20th. The daytime sleep routine is going great. And we still get a good 2 hour sleep in the arvo, and she’s in bed by 6.45 at night. I’ve only had to use the settling technique a few times. She got the hang of it really fast!!”
“Hi Emma, this is a very overdue email to say THANK YOU!!! So now she sleeps from 7.30pm – 7.15-7.30am. She is now a happy, fun girl, which I am just loving. There is no more tantrums with her demanding more milk. It’s fab, she’s a different person! “So THANK YOU so much Emma. I immediately got rid of Ayla’s baby bottle and straight away there were changes. I’m also thrilled to say it wasn’t difficult at all as we gave her bottle to a friends baby as Ayla no longer needed it and was a big girl. She will no longer drink milk, but she has enough dairy in her diet so that’s not a concern. She now has her day sleeps in her bed, I just rub her head for 5 minutes and she’s gone. We had a few issues with her playing once in her room for the night, but that was sorted with taking all toys away and introducing them back when she was good. The threat of taking them away again seems to be working. I have talked to many friends about you so hopefully you get some more business. Hopefully I won’t need to be in touch for number 2, but who knows. You have definitely changed my life for the better and it’s so nice to be enjoying spending time with Ayla now

My baby is no longer catnapping for 30 min a day but sleeping for 2 hours straight. He no longer taking up to2-3 hours to fall asleep being rocked in my arms, but self settles in only a few minutes. I have my evenings free for the first time ever and boy have I binged watched some serious Netflix!! haha

The last 2 weeks have been great with Sam sleeping though from 7pm- unfortunately daylight savings has meant he thinks 0430-0530 is morning! However, going from 5-7 wakeups and awake for hours at a time to an early morning is still tolerable. So once again thank you so much for restoring our sanity. "Daniela helped us when at about four months our baby girl became a cat napper sleeping for only 30 minute stretches during the day and melting down by the end of the day. It would take ages to get her to sleep in the evening and when she seemed extra fussy I started cuddling her to sleep again. Daniela came to our home and got us back on track. Our daughter now self settles for most naps and has decent sleeps during the day. She goes to bed about 6:30pm and only gets up once in the night. We have our evenings back and my daughter and I are both so much happier and more relaxed. Daniela was fantastic. She gave us clear, practical advice with compassion.
