T'was the week before Christmas

T'was the week before Christmas

T'was the week before Christmas

T’was the week before Christmas,

When all through the land,

Children were sleeping,

due to an iPad ban.

The parents had hidden the presents in vain,

In hopes that gifts remove over tiredness pain.

The babies were nestled snug in their beds,

While vision of bottles, and cuddles danced in their heads.

And mum in her active wear, and I in my summer cap,

Had just settled down for our post bed time nap.

When down the hall of the house,

 there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.

I ran down the hall as fast as a flash,

Certain it couldn’t be the children causing a smash.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,

But a toddler saying “I’m thirsty my dear.”

With a silent return, and back to bed,

The consultant told me, not a word to be said.

More rapid than gulls to a bread flying,

The baby again, she is crying.

I whispered, then shouted and called her name,

“Baby do you think sleep is a game?”

To the side of the cot, facing the wall,

Patting your back to sleep, once and for all.

And then in a twinkling, I remembered advice

What the sleep consultant told me to be precise.

As I drew my hand, and was slowly turning around,

“ensure the white noise is adequate sound.”

“Keep baby dressed not to hot from head to toe

Sleeping bags that breathe, as there will be No snow!”

Bundles of toys, please not in the cot,

Safe sleep these are not.

Babies eyes how they drooped, her dimples so Merry,

Maybe the sleep drops worked, or was it the tart cherry.

Babies mouth was drawn down, fast asleep at last,

I fastened the Lulla Doll to the cot with her clasp.

A wink of my eye and twist of my head,

Back on the couch, more crying I dread.

Mum spoke not a word, but went straight to the phone,

The sleep consultant we called, We’re not alone!

I heard her exclaim on face time in sight,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”

Merry Christmas to all our clients and hopefully this poem has bought you a little laugh during this busy season.

xx
